The Passover Lamb.

ACTS 2:36

36 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,

                  The early Church had many reasons to be strong and we are going to see one of the the reasons now. That is they gathered in all their homes ,broke bread and received their food with glad and generous heart(Communion). Let us see the importance of the communion and spiritual significance of communion.

EXODUS 2:23

23 During those many days the king of Egypt died, and the people of Israel groaned because of their slavery and cried out for help. Their cry for rescue from slavery came up to God.

                      This is a period when Israelite's been on captivity in Egypt. The time came when the ruling power changed in Egypt and the new king thought that if we let the Israelite like this they will become too numerous for us and they will over power us.So he he commands to oppress the people of God with forced labor. But in the upcoming verse we can see that how much ever they were oppressed they became even more numerous in the upcoming days. EXODUS 1:12,"But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel."So after this the people of God can not control the pain they are under going and cried unto the Lord to rescue them from that oppressed.

                          So God listen to their cry and chooses a person called Moses to rescue his people from that oppressed. After this God did sent six plaques on Egypt to let his people from the slavery but every time Pharaoh's heart was hardened. Then God spoke to Moses the plaque he going to do the next. He want to tell the Israelite people also to do the things to be saved from the plaque that God is going to do. 

EXODUS 12:3,4,5,6

3 Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household.

4 And if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his nearest neighbor shall take according to the number of persons; according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb.

5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, 

6  and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.

                  God says to take a lamb or a sheep which should be of no defects and it should be a male.

Like this each household should take a lamb for them and keep it until fourteenth day.And on the evening if the fourteenth day they have to kill the small lamb and every on should eat the lamb,God also says to eat the bread without yeast it should a unleavened bread and with also herbs .And they have to take blood of the blood and put on the doorposts of their houses and that they may be saved on that night because the the Lord is going to strike all first born of Egypt. And God says to remember this and celebrate this as a festival as Passover and unleavened bread so that the upcoming generation may know what the Lord has done to deliver the Israelite.  

EXODUS 12:7,8

7 Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.

8 They shall eat the flesh that night, roasted on the fire; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.

                   Now the people obeyed what God spoke through Moses.All took a lamb without blemish and a male one.But let us think a little bit practical the lamb is small it must be a small part of the family within the five days and the children's would be playing around with the little lamb.It have became a good small little favorite pet for them all around the little lamb would be happy all the members in the family and children in the house.

                    But the time comes when the little lamb should be killed which all the family loved. and on that same evening they should eat it. This must be so difficult to family to over come because the the lamb which the used to fed and play is no more after that. Those who all have a pet animal know the feeling of killing their pet and eating the flesh if the pet they had.But they obeyed God's word and they were saved through the blood of the lamb. because the Lord said to them that the destroyer would cross over the house of the Israelite by seeing the blood on the doorposts. this was done because the lamb was killed and its blood was shed in the earth so that the households of the people of Lord were saved through the blood of the Lamb. Innocent blood was shed in this earth that the people may be saved through that blood.

Let us see in LUKE 22:7,8

7 Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.

8 So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.”

                    So people followed till this to remember the Passover festival. And Jesus Christ says Peter to prepare the Passover lamb.

 In Luke 22:19,20

19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.

                       Here Jesus Christ says to his disciples that "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."This is a symbolic representation what God did in the days when Israelite were in slavery.Their a small lamb is to be killed to save the whole community of Israelite. Here Jesus Christ is the small lamb who is going to be killed so that whole people in this earth may be saved.

                         Here says that this is my body given for you because the Israelite ate the Passover lamb in the night so we take the bread and the blood which was put on the doorposts to protects from the destroyer to pass over the house of the Israelite so we take the wine as a protection over the evil thinks and against the Satan to come near us. So this called the communion that makes us stronger against the Satan and keeps us holy and promotes us to the presence of the Lord through the Passover lamb Jesus Christ.
